About this event

After such a successful turnout last time, we are back at it again! This second edition of our Knowledge Bar is all about art, legacy and the player experience.

Two artists from IO Interactive and our guest UX designer from Escape Velocity will share their learnings on topics such as evoking emotions through concept art, working with transitioning technology and giving players the right options.

As always, the knowledge is shared, but the drinks are on us! We will also have a good time, network, socialize and exchange ideas, under the roof of IOI's sunniest studio.

About the event: How can we grow if not by sharing our knowledge? Let's break the conventional and get together as industry colleagues, to share and grow the knowledge of our local games community.

  • Esben Rasmussen, Art Director, IOI Copenhagen

How does one create portals into new exciting worlds? Esben, or Esben Lash as he is known online, is doing his first public talk since he joined our studio as Art Director on Project Fantasy. And you get to be there for it! He will take you on a journey through the path and the inherent choices it takes to evoke strong emotions in the viewer. At the end you will gather a deeper understanding into what it takes to create key art.

18:50 - 19:10 - Working with code legacy

IO Interactive is by game industry standards an 'old' company. This carries with it a lot of legacy when it comes to what games the studio has made. But it also carries a lot of code legacy. Rasmus would like to tell you more about how IOI works with this legacy without being bugged down, by both maintaining and building on it.

19:10 - 19:30 UX: Options, options and more options

  • Theyab Al Tamimi, Lead UX Designer, Escape Velocity

Is there anything such as too many options for the player? If UX design can give players the option to customize various parts of gameplay, video, audio and UI, the only question is if we should do it. In this talk, Theyab from Escape Velocity, ex-Hangar 13 & Ubisoft, is joining as a guest speaker to show you how you can give the player the options they need, while avoiding options paralysis.
